Workshop: Biomedical applications of functionalised carbon nanotubes
The workshop is organised by the Marie-Curie Research Training Netwerk CARBIO (www.carbio.eu).
Dates: 6. - 9. September 2010 at Castle Eckberg in Dresden.

Scope of the workshop
-
Invited Speakers / Invited Attendees:
Hanene Ali-Boucetta (UoE/MRC, London) -
Contributed presentations:
Extraordinary physical and chemical properties render carbon nanotubes promising candidates as biomedical agents for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Filling the nanotubes with tailored materials forms packages in which the active content is encapsulated by a protecting carbon shell. The workshop aims at highlighting the potential as well as critically reviewing risks and challenges of applying carbon nanotbes in biomedicine. The workshop will combine contributions from chemistry, physics, biology, engineering, and medicine.
Topics:
- synthesis and biofunctionalisation routes
- physical properties of carbon nanotubes relevant to biomedical applications
- Interaction of CNT with biological environments (toxicity, cellular uptake, immune response, environmental impact,...)
- Drug delivery and Targeting
- Sensoring and Imaging
- Hyperthermia
