The IFF provides a dynamic and diverse environment for the training of undergraduate and graduate students. In particular, we offer upper-level undergraduate training programmes in the framework of student apprenticeships and diploma works as well as graduate training, consisting of practical research training, courses, workshops, and multidisciplinary research projects. We are looking for highly motivated individuals from the fields of physics, chemistry, material science, engeneering and related subjects. People will be actively involved in in an international high-level scientific environment and trained in our research fields.
Student Apprenticeships and hands-on training
In the framework student program we offer student apprenticeships (studentische Hilfskräfte) and hand-on training in our research teams. If you passed your Vordiplom and are willing to do more than the minimum requested we invite you to contact Prof. Bernd Büchner or the group leader working in the field of your interest. You will actively work on one of our current research topics and gain valuable experience in experimental solid state physics.
Diploma Topics
Our ongoing research activities always generate interesting and challenging research topics which can be addressed in the framework of a diploma work. We offer diploma works in the fields of physics, chemistry, materials research and engeneering for students from universities as well as from universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen). Some possible diploma topics are listed here. If your personal preferences and expertises should not be covered by the available dipoma topics, we will be able to find a research topic which is adjusted to your individual wishes and to the requirements of your university.
In your diploma work you will be trained by means of targeted research on an up-to-date problem of current solid state research. The involved IFF staff members guarantee an excellent training and support in a specific experimental technique. For further information about possible diploma topics contact Prof. Bernd Büchner or the contact person of your topic of choice by email or by phone.
PhD Topics
The IFF runs an ambitious PhD program which combines outstanding basic science education with training in state-of-the-art experimental techniques. The PhD works which we offer are mainly in the field of physics and chemistry, but there are also topics in the fields of materials sciences and electrical engeneering (cf. list of open PhD positions). Usually, open positions evolve from our daily research activities and are filled on the short term. We therefore invite applicants at any time to submit their CV and a description of their research interests to Prof. Büchner or to a contact person of the respective research topic.
Post Doc positions
In several projects we offer Post Doc positions (cf. list of open positions) for usually 6 months to 3 years in which experienced scientists can join our research activities.
