Surface Dynamics Group

The activities of the Surface Dynamics Group within the "Magnetic and acoustic resonances" Section of the Institute for Solid State Research (IFF) are mainly concerned with surface-guided and related acoustic waves.

The work of the group is characterized both by fundamental and applied research and by intensive co-operation with industrial enterprises.
The group is active in the following fields of interest:

  • Characterization of solid state surfaces and layered structures in relation to their elastic, dielectric, piezoelectric, ferroelectric and ferroelastic properties
  • Experimental investigations of the excitation and propagation properties of Surface Acoustic Waves (SAW)
  • Search for new acoustic modes guided by surfaces and interfaces and related phenomena
  • Development of new design principles for SAW devices and their physical modelling in co-operation with industrial enterprises
  • Development and characterization of new materials for SAW devices
  • Acoustic sensors (e.g. Monitoring blood coagulation)
