Thin layer UV-Vis-NIR spectroelectrochemistry

Thin layer UV-Vis-NIR-spectroelectrochemistry

In a normal in situ UV-Vis-NIR-spectroelectrochemical cell the product under investigation  is formed in a thin layer close to the electrode surface. Only a small part of the volume interacting with the light contains the product. Therefore an interference with the absorption of the starting material is often unavoidable.
Mixing of the formed product with the starting material shortens the lifetime of the product and makes the investigation more difficult. These disadvantages were avoided by using a thin layer spectroelectrochemical cell.

The thin layer cell shown above is equipped with a LIGA working electrode having a well defined pore size. With this cell it possible to convert the starting material completely to the product in a short time. Therefore the undisturbed spectra of the products can be obtained.
