Specific metal forming problems
Mechanical and thermomechanical treatments of metals and metal alloys are an integral part of modern materials development. For that reason we use basic knowledge about deformation mechanisms, the (dynamical) recrystallization behavior and the precipitation behavior to tailor specific materials properties. The main goal of the investigations is always an outstanding comination of structural and exclusive functional properties.
To realize the preparation of these materials a wide range of deformation methods is available at the IFW Dresden.
Examples of specific metal forming problems under investigation are:
- Development of highly cube textured Nickel substrate tapes for coated conductors applications
- Development of high strength Nickel-superalloys
- Analysis of interface and near interface material flow during and after metal forming operations
Selected deformation methods available at the IFW Dresden (from left): forging, drawing, rolling and profile rolling
