Advanced Oxide and Nitride Heterostructures

Oxides and nitrides show a rich varity of electronic and structural properties, which are of interest both for fundamental studies as well as for applications. The main aim of our research is the preparation of advanced oxide and nitride heterostructures with different functionalities. Pulsed laser deposition is used as a flexible method for thin oxide film growth. Part of the work is devoted to the development of advanced buffer layer architectures for YBCO coated conductors including the preparation of textured templates using ion-beam assisted deposition as well as the growth of diffusion barriers for RABiTS based conductors. The growth of atomically flat oxide superlattices on single crystalline substrates is another focus of our present work. The preparation of such oxide structures will allow to study for example the influence of epitaxial strain on different properties, but also the creation of materials with new or advanced functionalities.
