Powder in Tube Tapes (PIT)

 

For the preparation of long length superconductors the powder-in-tube (PIT) technology is widely used beginning with the low temperature superconductors NbTi and Nb3Sn. In our institute we have a long-time experience with BSCCO/Ag-tapes (the first high-temperature superconductors available in long length) prepared using this process.

The main focus of our current research is concentrated on the 40K-superconductor MgB2.

We are investigating the whole process starting from the precursor powder to bulk samples and wires or tapes. We have a fruitful cooperation on this topic with several other partners from Europe in the framework of the European project HIPERMAG.
