Pnictide based superconducting thin films
The discovery of superconductivity in the iron-pnictides in 2008 by Kamihara et al., (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 130 (2008) 3297) immediately stimulated the intensive research on this material class. The iron pnictide compounds REFeAsO1-xFx became a hot topic, since rare-earth (RE) substitution increases the superconductive transition temperature beyond 50 K challenging the dominant role of the cuprates. The successful growth of epitaxial superconducting LaFeAsO1-xFx thin films by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) offers a broad access to a fundamental experimental investigation of the new compounds. So far, the mechanisms for superconductivity, properties of the vortex-phase or possible applications are heavily discussed. Therefore, a reliable, qualitative and fast method of sample fabrication like PLD is able to provide the necessary material of research.
