Research interests

Implementation of a rotating superconducting magnetic bearing as twist element in the high-speed textile process ring spinning

The application of a rotating superconducting magnetic bearing (SMB) with high rotational speed in a ring spinning machine as a replacement of the traditional, friction afflicted ring-traveler twist element is presented under Superconductors for small scale levitation applications. This is a DFG funded project in collaboration with the Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM) at the TU Dresden.

During the spinning process, the permanent magnet ring (PM) is tilted due to the excentric yarn force. Together with the high process speed of 25.000 rpm this leads, depending on the tilt angle θ, to hysteresis losses in the superconductor. To quantitative evaluate these losses, the position of the PM is measured during the spinning process. Furthermore, the losses are determined by calorimetric measurement depending on the tilt angle θ.
