Prof. Dr. Oliver G. Schmidt, Director of the Institute for Integrative Nanosciences at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden, was one of 28 scientists appointed to the National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech). The members of acatech are admitted into the organisation on the basis of their outstanding scientific achievements and excellent reputation. Thus, the election as an Academician is an honor of the scientific achievement of new members. At the same time, it represents a voluntary mandate. The Academy, which is funded by the Federal Government and the Länder, advises politics and society on future issues of technology and technology policy, and develops appropriate recommendations for dedicated actions and comprehensive discussions.
