Dr. Mariana Medina Sanchez from the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW) was successful in this year's call of the European Research Council (ERC). She receives one of the prestigious ERC Starting Grants. With funding of 1.5 million euros, she will set up her own research group at the IFW. Her goal is to develop multifunctional floating microrobots for artificial insemination. There are still many challenges to be solved to bring this new technology to clinical application. These include the tracking and the remote control of these micro-objects through the tissue as well as the controlled removal from the organism after completion of the task. We wish Mariana Sanchez much success and congratulate on this award.
