As of 1.10.2020, Juliane Schmidt will hold the Executive Board position of Administrative Director at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden. Born in Dresden, she was Administrative Director and for many years also Managing Director of the Medical Care Centre, where she was responsible for administration and finances at the Universitätsklinikum Carl Gustav Carus Dresden.
Juliane Schmidt came into contact with the IFW Dresden as early as 1981: She completed her first apprenticeship as a physical laboratory assistant at the previous institute, the Zentralinstitut für Festkörperphysik und Werkstofforschung, and continued working at the institute for another two years. Afterwards her path took her into the field of university medicine. She completed several extra-occupational studies and was entrusted with coordinating tasks both at the Saxon State Ministry of Science and Art and at the TU Dresden before moving to the Universitätsklinikum Carl Gustav Carus Dresden in 2003.
Professor Bernd Büchner, the Scientific Director of the IFW Dresden, welcomes the appointment of his colleague on the Executive Board: "We are very happy to welcome Juliane Schmidt as our new Administrative Director. a committed leader with close connections in Dresden and with the IFW. In her new position, Juliane Schmidt's declared goals are, in addition to securing funding, the further development and management of a service-oriented and efficient administration for the best possible support of excellent research at IFW Dresden.
As the new Administrative Director, Juliane Schmidt succeeds Dr. Doreen Kirmse, who was previously responsible for the administration of the IFW Dresden for five years. Doreen Kirmse was appointed Chancellor of the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences on 1 July.
