International Workshop on

Electron and photon spectroscopies of quantum materials:
status and perspectives

Funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) – 397779833

January 29-31, 2018, IFW Dresden, Germany

The Workshop "Electron and photon spectroscopies of quantum materials: status and perspectives” will provide a forum for review and discussion of the most recent advances in the field of how spectroscopies involving both light and electrons provide such deep insight into the electronic, magnetic and optical properties of quantum materials. The programme centres around a core group of excellent invited speakers, drawn from across Europe, North America and the Far East, each expert in the development or application of spectroscopy to the investigation of strongly correlated, low dimensional or topological materials. EPSQMat2018’s speakers also include key figures form the theory community and one of the aims of the meeting is to foster discussion and exchange of ideas between different experimental approaches and the relevant theory, so s to identify the most promising avenues for the future.

Workshop sessions cover theses including:

  • Angle resolved photoemission of superconductors
  • Soft X-ray scattering and spectroscopy of oxides & superconductors
  • X-rays for rare earths & oxides; towards new technologies
  • Ultrafast probes of superconductivity and magnetism
  • Theoretical advances for correlated quantum matter
  • Superconductivity: spectroscopy and new theories
  • Surfaces, organics & graphene
  • Topological quantum matter
  • Heavy fermions, magnetism and nanostructures

There are also two additional, informal evening discussion sessions, in which senior researchers will stimulate and guide discussions on the developments in the field and how new collaborations can take shape to further drive the research in this fascinating area.

There is also the opportunity to display and discuss posters.

The number of participants is limited to 100. Please contact us if you are interested in attending the Workshop.

The sessions will take place in the Lecture Hall of the IFW Dresden.
