The United Nations has declared "Quantum 2025" the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, shining a spotlight on the tremendous impact quantum mechanics has had - and continues to have - on science, technology, culture, and everyday life, 100 years after its original formulation. As a globally leading research institute in this field, IFW Dresden is contributing to the initiative by inspiring the next generation of curious minds to explore the fascinating world of quantum physics.
Interactive Installations for Young Explorers
On April 13, the eve of Germany’s official "Day of Quantum Physics", a newly designed exhibition space will open its doors at the Technical Collections Dresden. Several interactive exhibits expand the existing Wellenreiter exhibition with a brand-new quantum-themed section, designed to make complex physical concepts - such as the quantization of energy - understandable, engaging, and memorable. A highlight of the new exhibit is QuantumCurling, an innovative game where physics meets play. On Quantum Day, visitors can join scheduled team challenges and experience firsthand how scientific principles can come alive through active, fun-filled gameplay. Success requires teamwork, precision, and a good sense of strategy - just like real-life research.
Science, Curiosity, Collector's Stamps
All visitors are warmly invited to join the opening event on Sunday, April 13, with special invitations extended to participants of Dresden’s JUNIORDOKTOR program. Now in its 17th season, this city-wide initiative introduces school students to scientific and cultural institutions through hands-on learning and behind-the-scenes insights.
The Quantum Sunday celebration also marks the program’s official midterm event. Participants can earn another coveted stamp for their JUNIORDOKTOR pass by solving science puzzles, completing experiments, and tackling brain-teasing challenges. Those who crack the final codeword will be rewarded with a stamp - and be one step closer to earning the symbolic JUNIORDOKTOR graduation cap at the end of the season.
