Diversity strengthens Research and Collaboration

IFW Dresden underscores its commitment to an open and appreciative institutional culture on German Diversity Day

On the occasion of German Diversity Day on 19 May, the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) renews its strong commitment to diversity, equal opportunities and a respectful working culture. Since August 2008, IFW Dresden has been a signatory of the Diversity Charter (Charta der Vielfalt), actively promoting a prejudice-free working environment.

The institute is currently also in the final stage of the certification process for the berufundvielfalt audit, underlining the importance of diversity and an inclusive institutional culture at IFW Dresden.

People from more than 40 nations and with a wide range of professional backgrounds work together at IFW Dresden towards one common goal: generating new insights through excellent materials research that can contribute to future applications benefiting society and technology. Researchers, technical staff, administrative employees and early-career scientists all contribute different perspectives, experiences and expertise. International collaboration, interdisciplinary research teams and the exchange between experienced employees and young researchers shape everyday life at the institute.

“For us, diversity is far more than a social responsibility – it is a real strength in our scientific everyday work. Different perspectives broaden the way we approach research questions and foster creative solutions. We want to create a working environment in which people can contribute their individual strengths and where appreciation and respect are taken for granted. Innovation emerges where openness, respect and diverse perspectives come together.”

Juliane Schmidt, Administrative Director of IFW Dresden

German Diversity Day draws nationwide attention to the importance of diversity in the workplace. At IFW Dresden, diversity is not viewed as a short-term initiative, but as an integral part of the institute’s culture and its forward-looking approach to research and collaboration.
