The European Society of Thin Films (EFDS) recently held its fall meeting at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (IFW Dresden).
As a scientific organization, the EFDS connects small and medium-sized companies with universities and research institutes. The focus is on the development of innovative solutions in the fields of surface, thin film, vacuum and plasma technologies to make products and processes more efficient and sustainable.
The aim is to advance research and technological development in the field of thin film technologies and to promote the transfer of research results into commercial success. The EFDS Optics, Electronics & Energy Technical Committee focuses on the following areas:
(1) Energy storage, photovoltaics, catalysis, battery & fuel cell,
(2) sensor technology, OLED, microsystems technology, MEMS and
(3) Large area coating, architecture, optics, film coating.
This year's fall meeting at the end of October was hosted by Prof. Dr. Devi, Prof. Dr. Nielsch and Prof. Dr. Hufenbach from the IFW Dresden.
More than 30 participants from industry and research met at the IFW Dresden and received a comprehensive overview of current research and development activities in numerous presentations. The subsequent discussion rounds provided an opportunity to discuss the existing research requirements. We look forward to continuing our successful cooperation with partners from industry and research in the field of thin film technologies.
