On August 19, 2024, the kick-off event for the STARK project ProMaterialLausitz for future-oriented and sustainable tool manufacturing through additive manufacturing took place in Zittau. Parliamentary State Secretary Michael Kellner from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) was also an active participant. Together with representatives from industry and science, he discussed the challenges of structural change and the importance of innovation and knowledge transfer for the Lusatia region during the panel discussion.
ProMaterialLausitz is a joint project of the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, supported by the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology. The project aims to support structural change as an opportunity to realign regional companies. By establishing a network of research and industry, synergies are to be made possible with regard to the production of innovative metal, plastic and hybrid components along the entire production process.
A central aspect of the ProMaterialLausitz project is the advancement of sustainable materials and technologies in the field of tool manufacturing. For the development towards a more climate-friendly economy, it is crucial to develop and integrate resource-efficient and environmentally friendly processes. Additive manufacturing is set to play a key role here.
The task of the project is now to combine the existing expertise in Lusatia, such as in plastics processing or plant engineering, with the latest technological developments. The aim is to generate innovative, sustainable solutions together with regional industrial companies. Through this collaboration, the consortium can contribute to Lusatia establishing itself as a pioneer in sustainable manufacturing technology.
